BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOGS

Our family has always owned fast paced working breeds for the farm such as Australian Shepards, Heelers and Border Collies.

But in 2018 we purchased our first Purebred CKC Bernese Mountain Dog from a reputable breeder in British Columbia to see how we would enjoy a more ‘laid back’ breed around the farm. And I can confidently say that we are absolutely hooked.

The Bernese Mountain Dog temperament is calm, sociable and loyal yet bold and protective enough around the property. They are a huge, fit livestock guardian and watchdog. Bernese descend from Roman Mastiff breeds. The name originates in the city of Berne, where old dogs drove herding animals and pulled farmers’ carts. Bernese Mountain Dog temperament made them the perfect mountain range draft dog. The Bernese Mountain Dog is giant, clever, energetic, powerful yet relaxed.

Our goal at Karlena Farms is to produce high quality family dogs for all to enjoy. Our Bernese are excellent with the animals, great guard dogs and so gentle with kids. They get compliments on their great looks and docile, obedient demeanors everywhere we take them!

All of our breeding dogs are OFA approved for Hip Dysplasia, Elbow Dysplasia, and Thyroid Disease
